Skin imperfections are one of the most obvious signs of unhealthy lifestyle. Acne rosacea is one of those which fall under the wish-I-don’t-have-it list for fair-skinned women in the 30′s to 60′s. Men are affected, too. However, more women are suffering from acne rosacea. Some of the symptoms are persistent blushing or flushing of the face or inflammation of nose, cheeks, forehead, and around the mouth, ears, neck, or chest, rhinophyma or nose enlargement, small red pimples, dilated blood vessels in the face, itching, red and watery eyes, and red spots or lines. All these symptoms may be seen in some individuals. Others sport only one or a few of them.

Do not mistake adult acne or acne rosacea from acne vulgaris, which is seen mostly on teenagers. Acne rosacea is a chronic skin disease which may be active for a longer time than acne vulgaris, which can be treated. Acne rosacea treatments require constant and religious application over a long period of time.

Acne rosacea treatment only prevents symptoms from worsening or control and decreases the severity symptoms when activated. No cures were discovered for acne rosacea, yet. Hence, here are some of the brilliant acne rosacea treatments science has come up with:

Keep off trigger factors

The trigger factors can elevate the skin redness, irritation, and all the symptoms that acne rosacea entails. Thus, avoiding these “triggers” is an ideal preventive measure against a rosacea outbreak. Avoid stress, smoking, spicy food, alcoholic beverages, strong cosmetic or skin care products, and prolonged sun exposure.

Lifestyle changes towards a healthy and strong well being are the first step to regain a glowing skin and also achieve optimal health condition. So avoid very acidic food, too much sweets, and excessive exercise routines.

Go through Medical treatment with a Dermatologist

A licensed and competent dermatologist should monitor any and all acne rosacea treatments you would choose to undergo. The skin is a delicate part of the body that is not worth the risk for self-medication, especially since some drugs or treatments have potential harmful side effects.

Oral antibiotics are prescribed for mild rosacea cases. Its anti-inflammatory properties have been proven effective against acne rosacea pustules and papules. Consult your doctor if you can be a candidate for this treatment and for how long it should be ingested.

Cosmetic or aesthetic surgeries can restore a nose ravaged by rosacea to its original shape. Vascular lasers can reduce the sizes of blood vessels without the side effects of scars and damaged tissues. Although lasers and surgeries are more expensive, they are still desirable corrective acne rosacea treatment for those with severe cases that no amount of antibiotics and topical application can help abate.

For people with mild acne rosacea, gels, lotions, and creams with natural ingredients which won’t irritate the skin are also effective.

Rosacea is a condition that affects women more often than men, but men have more severe symptoms than do women. The onset of symptoms tends to occur in people over 30 years of age although both women and men can experience it at anytime.

Adult acne rosacea is a skin disorder that shows up on the middle part of the face. The areas of the face around the nose, forehead and chin become reddened and can be full of pimples. Even though it is called acne rosacea, it is different than acne. Acne rosacea is a disease that mostly affects adults who have fair skin. In the areas affected by rosacea, the blood vessels, which are usually small, become enlarged and visible.

Causes Of Adult Acne Rosacea

The causes of this condition are unknown. It is possible that stress can cause flair ups of rosacea. People who commonly blush have more flair ups of rosacea. Exposure to the sun can cause flair ups as well.

It is possible that there is a mite in the hair follicles that could cause flair ups of rosacea. Also, some doctors believe that the bacteria Helicobacter pylori can cause rosacea breakouts. But these are all guesses. Right now, doctors are not sure what exactly causes adult acne rosacea. It could be different for different people.

Signs Of Adult Acne Rosacea

Rosacea usually appears as an inflammation of the skin on the face around the forehead, nose, and cheeks. Over time, the skin no longer returns to its original condition, unless treated. It can be combined with the nodules associated with acne.

Adult rosacea can cause a nose condition that is called rhinophyma. This makes the nose grow to be bulbous and enlarged. Also, the eyes can be affected by adult acne rosacea. Rosacea sufferers often suffer from conjunctivitis, which is a burning and itching of the eyes. This can lead to very serious complications of the eyes.

Can Adult Rosacea Be Treated?

The condition is not curable, but it can be regulated with treatment. People who suffer from adult acne rosacea should not use over the counter acne treatments. These can irritate the skin and actually make rosacea worse. If you are suffering from adult acne rosacea, head to your doctor. You will be given both oral and topical medications for your condition.

Oral medications are usually antibiotics. Doctors usually start patients off with a high dosage to shock the body, and then taper off the treatment as the rosacea begins to respond. Topical medications vary, and can include antibiotic creams that reduce the swelling and rosy color of rosacea. Sometimes at the beginning of treatment, doctors will give the patient topical steroids, such as cortisone, to start the treatment of the inflammation.

Avoiding spicy food and smoking can also help flush out the symptoms of adult acne rosacea. It is also important to avoid sun exposure and extremes in temperature when treating rosacea. Do not use any strong skin care products.

Regarding the use of antibiotics, treatments like tetracycline and doxycycline will work, but are only temporary as once ended, the condition will return. Instead, they will exacerbate the condition by making it more inflamed and itchy further bothering the patient with adult acne rosacea.

There are many types of skin conditions and Rosacea just happens to be one of them. It generally affects light skinned women anywhere between 30 and 50 years of age, however it can begin earlier or later in life as well. Many individuals are affected by Rosacea yet do not know much about it. Fortunately, the following information will help determine what Rosacea is, what causes it, its symptoms, as well as its treatments.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin condition that is marked by red, broken capillaries, acne, and oily and inflamed skin. Rosacea is a chronic condition and unfortunately there have been no developments in determining its cause or its cure. This disease is not one that should cause serious concern medically, however it does cause significant cosmetic concern. Since Rosacea most often affects women it can cause self esteem problems. Simply knowing there is no cure makes women frustrated and dislike their reflection in the mirror.

Symptoms

Individuals who believe they may be affected by Rosacea won’t undergo any fancy tests to determine this. Instead, a physician will simply look at their face and ask them about their symptoms. If many of the symptoms are experienced by the patient and the evaluation shows physical signs of the disease then the physician will likely diagnose Rosacea.

The following symptoms are frequently experienced by Rosacea sufferers. They include burning or stinging of the face, rashes or the appearance of sunburn on the face, dry skin with hard pimple like bumps, broken capillaries, and blushing or flushing that occurs frequently. If you have any of these symptoms then you should consider visiting your physician or dermatologist.

The symptoms a Rosacea sufferer endures may be made worse in certain situations. For example, many Rosacea sufferers experience increased activity when they drink alcohol or caffeine or eat spicy foods. The climate can also have a negative affect on those with Rosacea. Wind, sun, and even dramatic changes in temperature may cause a flare up of Rosacea.

Another type of Rosacea is Ocular Rosacea and this has similar symptoms as outlined above in addition to symptoms that affect the eyes. For example, Ocular Rosacea sufferers might experience swollen eyelids with bumps, lose eyelashes, have red eyes and eyelids, as well as others.

Rosacea Stages

There are three stages of Rosacea that are experienced in the following pattern.

Stage 1
The first stage is typically noted by dry and sensitive skin. Other symptoms include red lines on the face and sore eyes. Erythema may show up and last for hours or even days.

Stage 2
In stage 2 of Rosacea a patient may notice that their face is not the only part of their body affected. This is because symptoms may spread to the neck and chest or even the scalp. Typically in Stage 2 nodules, pustules, or both appear on the skin and may last for days or even weeks.

Stage 3
If Rosacea is left untreated then the disease will reach stage 3, which is classified by a swollen nose and larger nodules on the cheeks. Fortunately, most individuals receive treatment prior to the disease reaching these lengths.

Treatments

Once you have been diagnosed with Rosacea you will certainly be interested in treatment options. Unfortunately, there is no cure available for Rosacea because doctors and researchers are still unsure of what causes Rosacea in the first place. However, there are treatment options available that do a good job of controlling the disease and keeping it under control. Without treatment the disease will cause permanent damage to the face and possibly other parts of the body, so treatment is important. Currently, treatment of Rosacea focuses on keeping the disease from progressing, minimizing redness and inflammation, as well as reducing eruptions.

Frequently oral antibiotics and a topical antibiotic gel are prescribed to bring the disease under control. However, oral antibiotics cannot be taken for long periods of time so only topical treatments will be continued after the Rosacea is under control. Some lifestyle changes may also be in store for Rosacea sufferers to help control the disease.

If you feel you have similar symptoms as outlined above that are exacerbated by the sun or wind, alcohol, caffeine, or spicy foods, then you should see your dermatologist as soon as possible for a diagnosis. There are many skin conditions that have similar symptoms so only a physician may diagnose you. There is no cure available, but the variety of treatment options do help keep Rosacea under control for the majority of sufferers.

Rosacea is a common but often misunderstood condition that is estimated to affect over 45 million people worldwide. Rosacea is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. Rosacea is often passed on in families, with women being afflicted more often than their male counterparts. Men, however, often get more severe forms of rosacea. For women with rosacea, increased flushing and blushing may occur around and during menopause. Rosacea affects an estimated 14 million Americans. Adults, especially those between 30 and 50 years of age who have lighter skin, blonde hair and blue eyes, are most likely to suffer from rosacea. People with rosacea often find that certain lifestyle and environmental factors trigger a flare-up or aggravate their individual conditions. Certain medications and topical irritants can quickly progress rosacea.

Rosacea is basically different than acne. Rosacea strikes both sexes. The immune system also has been implicated as playing a role in rosacea’s development. Some people with rosacea have increased numbers of the mite, especially those with steroid induced rosacea. Steroid induced rosacea is the term given to rosacea caused by the use of topical or nasal steroids. These steroids are often prescribed for seborrheic dermatitis. Some acne and wrinkle treatments cause rosacea include microdermabrasion, chemical peels, high dosages of isotretinoin, benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin. Exposure to temperature extremes can cause the face to become flushed as well as strenuous exercise, heat from sunlight, severe sunburn, stress, anxiety, cold wind, moving to a warm or hot environment from a cold one such as heated shops and offices during the winter. Rosacea may also result in reddened skin, scaling and swelling of affected areas.

Rosacea sufferers often report periods of depression stemming from cosmetic disfigurement, painful burning sensations, and decreases in quality of life. Tetracycline antibiotics including doxycycline and minocycline reduce inflammation. Sometimes other oral antibiotics such as cotrimoxasole or metronidazole are prescribed for resistant cases. Metronidazole cream or gel can be used intermittently or long term on its own for mild cases and in combination with oral antibiotics for more severe cases. Dermatological vascular laser (single wavelength) or Intense Pulsed Light (broad spectrum) machines offer one of the best treatments for rosacea. Azelaic acid cream or lotion is also effective, applied twice daily to affected areas. CO2 lasers can be used to remove excess tissue caused by phymatous rosacea. Cosmetics may be used to conceal the effects of rosacea.

Rosacea Treatment and Prevention Tips

1. Avoid oil-based facial creams. Use water-based make-up.

2. Never apply a topical steroid to the rosacea.

3. Protect yourself from the sun. Use light oil-free facial sunscreens.

4. Keep your face cool: minimize your exposure to hot or spicy foods, alcohol, hot showers and baths and warm rooms.

5. CO2 lasers can be used to remove excess tissue caused by phymatous rosacea.

6. Vascular laser (single wavelength) or Intense Pulsed Light (broad spectrum) machines offer one of the best treatments for rosacea

7. Isotretinoin (Accutane) is a powerful medication sometimes used for more severe cases of inflammatory rosacea.

8. Oral antibiotics may also help to relieve symptoms of ocular rosacea.

This article clarifies the difference between acne and rosacea two oftern confused skin conditions. The people suffering from Rosacea are highly prone to cold, wind, and heat. Rosacea also involves a vascular component causing flushing and broken blood vessels.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin disease that is prevalent with the people who are very fair. Red patches appear on the nose, face, forehead, and cheeks and is known as erythema in this stage. In extreme cases, it might lead to small bumps on face, irritating sensation, red eyes, and lobulated nose. This particular skin disease is more common with women than men and occurs in those between the age group of 30 to 60 years. The people suffering from Rosacea are highly prone to cold, wind, and heat. The problem increases with increasing age. As such, it is important to prevent Rosacea from spreading and getting worse. There are four types of Rosacea, which are as follows:

1. Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea: It causes permanent redness.

2. Ocular rosacea: It makes the eyes red with an irritating effect.

3. Phymatous rosacea: It enlarges the nose.

4. Papulopustular rosacea: It leads to occurrence of red bumps filled with pus. Some notable people who suffer from Rosacea are Mariah Carey, Bill Clinton, Ricky Wilson, Rosie O’Donnell, Rembrandt, and Lisa Faulkner.

Difference between Rosacea and Acne

The basic difference between the two is that, the presence of comedones that is a major part of acne problem is totally absent in case of Rosacea. Blackheads do not appear in Rosacea that is present in acne. The pustules and papules in Rosacea are less follicular than acne. The redness that accompanies Rosacea is normally not seen in case of acne. Even some of the treatments that are applicable for acne cannot be applied for people suffering from Rosacea. These include benzoyl peroxide, topical retinoids, topical azelaic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, chemical peels, and acne peels.

What is the Difference between Rosacea and Seborrheic Dermatitis?

Seborrheic Dermatitis and Rosacea are closely related, they both involve inflammation of the oil glands. Rosacea also involves a vascular component causing flushing and broken blood vessels. Seborrheic Dermatitis may involve the presence of somewhat greasy flaking involving the T zone such as crusts, scales, itching and occasionally burning. Dermatitis may also be found on the scalp, ears and torso. It does not usually involve red bumps as in Rosacea. The T zone is the area shaped like a `T’ composed of your forehead, nose and around your mouth. Just to confuse things further, the two conditions are often seen together.

Why Do I Have Rosacea?

Rosacea often manifests itself in Caucasian and very fair skin, often with those that have skin commonly called “Porcelain”. This type of skin is often highly sensitive to heat, wind, cold and especially the sun. Years of exposure to these elements often manifests into more severe cases of Rosacea later in life like Rhinophyma, yet many are genetically predisposed to having Rosacea at any age. The severity, however, increases as you age and hence managing your condition is of the utmost importance.

How Does Rosacea Progress?

Rosacea normally progresses in the same generalized fashion: frequent dilation of facial blood vessels leads to vascular hyper-responsiveness and structural damage. Rosacea experts talk about Rosacea symptoms appearing in 4 stages. Over time Rosacea can progress from one stage to the next.

Solution for Rosacea

Rosacea is a disease that is not totally curable. However, there are some companies like ZENMED that provides a comprehensive Rosacea Treatment. They control Rosacea from flaring-up in the future. If you are tired of using laser technologies and other medicines to control this problem, then you can use creams that are meant for both oily and dry skin types.

What is Rosacea and what can be done to treat the condition or to reduce the visible symptoms?

What is Rosacea and Are There Any Rosacea Treatments?

Rosacea (pronounced “roh-ZAY-sha”) is a condition of the skin often referred to as adult acne (although it shouldn’t be confused with acne) that causes red blemishes to form on the nose and cheek area.

Rosacea is a condition that afflicts millions of Americans alone, and usually manifests between the ages of 30 to 40. The condition, unfortunately, often worsens with time. Rosacea is a common skin condition characterized by redness, pimples, and broken blood vessels. Rosacea is not ‘picky’ about its victims. Both men and women have been diagnosed with it; however, the condition is usually worse in men because men generally wait a long time before seeking treatment for the condition.

General redness, broken and enlarged capillaries often accompany these areas. The cause of the condition is unknown but it is suspected that genetics play a role. In its mildest form, Rosacea can be difficult to recognize. In some cases, Rosacea may also occur on the neck, chest, scalp or ears. Over time, the redness tends to become ruddier and more persistent, and visible blood vessels may appear. Left untreated, bumps and pimples often develop, and in severe cases the nose may grow swollen and bumpy from excess tissue.

Sometimes, oily skin accompanies Rosacea. Flare-ups of this condition have been associated with the consumption of alcohol, spicy foods, citrus, hot beverages, tobacco, external heat and sun exposure.

People with Rosacea should avoid these irritating factors. Menopause may also be a factor.

Rosacea, in short, is a skin disorder that can lead to feelings of frustration, anger, embarrassment, and lower self-esteem. It is no wonder that so many people are looking for possible Rosacea cures and

potential Rosacea treatments. It should be noted that fair skinned people, such as those of Celtic, Irish, and Scandinavian origin are particularly susceptible. The cause of Rosacea is still unknown, but most experts believe it could be a bodily response to bacteria. Oral antibiotics are often prescribed, not as Rosacea cures, but as Rosacea treatments.

Unfortunately, there are no proven Rosacea cures yet. However, there are various Rosacea treatments that you might want to investigate; these will require seeking the advice of your physician, dermatologist, or a skin care consultant. Oral antibiotics are often prescribed, not as Rosacea cures, but as Rosacea treatments. Among the most popular are tetracycline and erythromycin. These will help more with the acne-like flare ups associated with Rosacea, but less helpful for the ruddy complexion and conspicuous blood vessels.

As well as antibiotics, there are also some prescription topical medications that are often prescribed for Rosacea treatments. One of the most popular of these is Metronidazole, which is an antibiotic cream. These topical Rosacea treatments can help more with the redness of the condition. Again, they are not Rosacea cures, and they may have side effects.

Some of the Rosacea treatments for the embarrassingly conspicuous blood vessels include having laser therapy or electro surgery performed. All available Rosacea treatments should be addressed with your doctor as some can have serious side effects.

Although hardly constituting Rosacea cures, what follows are some lifestyle tips and suggestions for those with this condition:

1. Sunlight can exacerbate Rosacea, so use sunscreen, or wear clothing that limits your sun exposure (such as a hat). Also, try to cut back on activities that put you in direct sunlight for long periods of time.

2. Stress can aggravate Rosacea as well. Try to make time for meditation or other relaxation techniques everyday. Yes, this may be difficult for some, but at least try to relax!

3. Hot weather, hot water, and hot, spicy foods can all make the condition worse. Keep cool!

4. Alcohol can cause flushing of the skin, which makes the visible signs of your Rosacea more noticeable.

5. Profuse sweating and flushing from exercise can worsen the condition.

6. Use a gentle cleanser without harsh chemicals.

Although the items listed above are not Rosacea cures, they should help you control your condition’s severity. Unless directed otherwise by a physician, some specific over-the-counter skin care products can help to ease the discomfort and negative effects of Rosacea. Make sure they are mild and contain no harsh chemicals that may further irritate your skin.
